Emergency Services

How Next Mile can help Emergency Services

Government agencies around the world are continually seeking ways to serve the public by improving mobility, sustainability, quality of life, public health, security, and more, for their citizens and the environment in which they live.

By 2050, over two-thirds of the world will live in urban areas (Source: United Nations). Combined with robust population growth, cities must build strategic plans around a wide range of problems such as traffic congestion, air pollution and a strain on existing public services. Several quintillion bytes of data are produced every day. Having access to the right, high quality data is important in enabling governments to execute against their public priorities for their citizens.

Emergency services and public safety

Situational awareness is the single most critical aspect for emergency responders. Public safety agencies use geospatial data to gain awareness for more informed decision-making during times of crisis.

Frontline emergency workers face the complex task of navigating through complex, multi-variable and multi-incident workflows. Data such as real-time traffic, incidents and road closures provide first responders and dispatchers with the visibility they need to perform their critical roles for their communities in saving lives.

HERE’s highly accurate road network data combined with dynamic routing and real-time traffic ensures the optimal vehicle is selected for the incident at hand and routed the most effective way.

For example, using only vehicle GPS coordinates, it may appear as though one truck is much closer to an incident than others and that it is will be able to attend the incident in the timeliest manner. However, taking into account current traffic flow and physical road restrictions such as bridge overpass heights and weather conditions such as heavy rain or fog, the dispatch team will be able to make a real-time data-driven decision to select the optimal truck and provide an accurate ETA for those at the scene.

HERE Traffic utilises over 100 unique traffic incident sources including vehicle and smartphone sensor data, national and regional traffic information hubs and roadworks data providers. This broad spectrum of data sources means customers can rely on HERE to deliver accurate information and improve response times.

Urban mobility optimisation

Location data is the key to enabling the digital transformation of cities because smart urban mobility solutions require multi-variable location context to enable decision support and automation. City planners can also utilise these insights to allocate priority for road infrastructure improvements throughout the city.

The reality facing authorities globally is that 55% of the earth’s population now resides in urban areas and nearly 60% of urban space is devoted to parking and road infrastructure. Additionally, overuse of single-occupancy vehicles is the single largest contributor to congestion and CO2 emissions. Now, more than ever, cities need efficient and sustainable urban mobility.

Traffic data can be used to gain a deeper understanding of how citizens move throughout a city by examining the trips taken across the road network. Agencies can the identify and remedy trouble spots, using traffic incident data, to increase road safety for all citizens. HERE’s traffic data is sourced from trillions of GPS probe data points and facilitates customised traffic analysis that accounts for vehicle type, speed, congestion, and traffic flow.

GIS services

Many of the services provided by geospatial teams rely on accurate map data.

HERE Map Data provides the data needed for effective decision-making and efficient asset management.

HERE offers an abundance of location information such as points of interest, addresses and routing to help service teams have the right location information quickly and efficiently.
